   The explosion in residential sales at Smith Mountain Lake has been closely followed by a wave of business growth that is just as staggering. For example, in the Westlake area, over 200 new businesses have opened in the past few years! This is, by far, the business hub of the lake, but other areas are beginning to emerge as shopping centers, too.

   The Bridgewater area (social hub of the lake, located at the middle of the Rt. 122 corridor at Hales Ford Bridge), features about 30 businesses, including restaurants, gift shops, an arcade, a marina, mini-golf, etc. In addition, it has recently added another building with 10 new businesses to compliment its existing wide variety of commercial ventures. Add to this, 2 new, very upscale condo buildings (96 individual units) are well underway on the adjoining property.

   Meanwhile, three other lake areas (Southlake, Eastlake, and central Moneta are about to explode with approximately 70 new businesses, either just completed or under construction.

 
   Lastly, the Rt. 122 corridor between old downtown Moneta and Westlake Corners is going nuts... There are over 1,000 residences on the drawing board for the next few years along this little strip, plus a number of new business are under way as well!

   As it happens, the owners of Smith Mountain Lake Boat Yard (my parents! 75+ years young!) are thinking about retirement. The property is currently for lease, but they will consider selling. (The asking price of this 5.2 acre tract is $3,900,000 if they decide to sell... they prefer to lease*).
